Modern Nomads

Tiny houses, van life, motor-homing, or whatever you want to call it, has been a growing trend in our world. Living on the move is not a new idea, nomadic life has existed since the birth of mankind, but with advances in technology, how might we design with this type of living in mind? Could van life be luxurious or even sustainable? These are questions that we asked ourselves to start the first project of my second year in product design.

Camping in CAD

After deciding on a form factor that challenged the common appearances of travel trailers, and decided on a floorplan that best fit our user group, we dove into Solidworks to start developing a full CAD model of the camper trailer.

Grouping Up

To start the project, our studio split into 3 groups of 5 people. Each of us were assigned hypothetical clients/users to design for. My group had a young influencer couple. To begin, we completed dozens of form iterations out of foam, and then iterated floor plans.

Final

After a CAD model was produced by the team and I, we focused on producing visuals and experiences to submit for our final:

- 1:12 Scale Model of the camper trailer

- High quality renders

- Drawings, specifications, section views

- VR walkthrough
